1893 Creation of the
Racecourse

The racecourse of Argentan was constituted on July 31st, 1893. His first Derby was run next year on a 4000 metersunder a dilluvienne rain and a terrible ground. NANGIS won the race, a son of famous FUSCHIA in the kilometer reduction of 2 '30". During 45 years, races in Argentan
were organised on two meetings : the Sunday and the Monday of
Whitsunday.
From 1942 till 1947, they were interrupted because of German occupation and of Battle of Normandy, which destroyed the racecourse completely. A team of volunteers does again then entirely a track of 1600 meters on 30 meters broad. This repairing allows to the racecourse of Argentan to re-open the doors in 1947. |

In 1968, former men keep decide to regroup the Societies of Argentan, Courtomer, Ecouché, Falaise, Merlerault, Nonant le Pin, Trun, Vimoutiers, to create a modern racecourse possible receive in all seasons galopeurs and trotters. This regrouping allowed to
construct a foyer and to do up three tracks, among which one sands down
1325 metres. |

The record of the track established during the inauguration in 1 '14 "7 by Tidalium Pélo was regularly improved, in 1988 by Ruanito d' Arc in 1' 13" 7, in 1989 by Riton du Gîte in 1 '12 "8, in 1995 by Cocktail Jest in 1' 11" 8, in 1996 by Derby du Gîte in 1 '11 "3 ; record equated by his sister Gisella du Gîte in 2000. Time accomplished on our track makes one of the quickest of Europe. The track of gallop, so much by the nature of its soil which by its maintenance, favours the participation of the best stables. Selective obstacles allow to assist one Steeple Chase and Cross-country always very spectacular. Many seatings, heated stands,
internal circuit of television, the broadcast of all races PMU and the
panoramic restaurant give to the public a big comfort. |

2004 - On 2008 the Racecourse turns over
a new leaf

In 2004, the track of trot was
notably entirely renovated by the improvement of the curves of turns,
